Edinburgh Hogmanay

Hogmanay Edinburgh!

With only a few days until the biggest party of the year here’s a preview of the main events in Edinburgh – the only destination for New Year’s Eve!

Events regularly sell out so think ahead and put some plans in place to enjoy the best Edinburgh has to offer. Book some accommodation, choose your events and all you will need to remember is a warm hat and gloves!

The Torchlight Procession

From 7.30pm Friday 30th November

Start the celebrations the night before Hogmanay by carrying a torch in the spectacular parade of light as it winds its way through the city. There’s a finale of music, lights, a bonfire and fireworks to help the evening go with a bang. Buy a ticket from Friday the 30th of September to join in or watch for free from many vantage points across the city.

The official Street Party

Saturday 31st December - 7pm until 1am - £25 per ticket

Edinburgh Street Party

There’s a real festival feel with 4 street party stages and 8 big screens meaning you can’t miss the live music and DJ’s. A big draw to this event is access to the prime position to enjoy the 4 fireworks displays with the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

The Old Town Ceilidh

Saturday 31st December - 9pm until 1am Tickets available end Sept.

Experience a traditional Scottish dance in the company of a variety of folk and traditional musicians and in the atmospheric and historic setting of the old town. This family friendly event starts with an optional Ceilidh School to teach you the moves but also has Ceilidh Callers to keep you right throughout the night. This energetic evening is supported by outdoor bars and street food to keep

The Loony Dook

Sunday 1st of January

Loony Dook

If Hogmanay itself is not exhilarating enough for you come to South Queensferry the next day and take part in a parade and then ‘dook’ in the refreshing waters of the Firth of Forth. This annual event, involving thousands of people in fancy dress jumping in the cold sea, raises thousands of pounds for charity. Registration in advance is necessary for those brave enough to take part but supporters can watch the fun for free.

Kick Ass Hostel is walking distance for all of these events!

Dress appropriately – many of these activities are outdoors, it could be windy, wet or even snowy! Warm hats and sensible footwear are advised!

Enjoy your stay and if you need any more advice, just ask any of the Kick Ass Hostel staff, we are here to make your trip the best possible time!
